Integrated STEM-CS Learning Group

We presented at the NARST 2026 Conference!
Our project team conducted an interactive workshop and presented a paper and a poster presentation at 2026 National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) Annual International Conference.
Workshop
Our team conducted a workshop titled “Integrating Science with Machine Learning for Upper Elementary Grades”.
This workshop engages participants in integrating AI literacy with science concepts (grades 3-5) through hands-on activities and educational robotics. The workshop demonstrates how to train AI models for image recognition in science contexts and apply these models with Finch 2 robots to deepen understanding of both AI literacy and science concepts. Participants trained image recognition machine learning/AI models using real-world applications and program Finch 2 robots to respond to AI predictions.

Paper Presentation
Our team presented a research paper titled "Enacting Agency: An Ecological Perspective on Teachers’ Experiences of an Integrated Curriculum". This study investigates how elementary teachers enact agency when implementing an integrated curriculum through a scaffolded approach (from adopt to adapt).

Poster Presentation
We presented a poster titled "Leveraging Integrated Curriculum and Educational Robotics to Develop AI Literacy in Upper Elementary Grades" at RAISE RIG (Research in Artificial Intelligence-Involved Science Education) poster session. The poster explains the artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum developed by our team to support AI literacy among upper elementary students.
